Volunteer in Cusco

Join GVI to volunteer in Cusco, in southeastern Peru. Cusco is a melting pot where ancient history meets 21st century convenience. Being a popular destination for travelers, and the gateway to Machu Picchu means you can easily take a day trip to explore this spectacular Inca site. Wander down charming cobbled streets while exploring the Peruvian markets, where you can buy keepsakes such as handwoven alpaca knits in the form of ponchos and brilliantly coloured blankets. You will never be short of things to do in and around this bustling city.

When you arrive in Cusco you are immediately enveloped in the welcoming atmosphere, an escape from modern life and a step into the past. It was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, and is the undisputed center of archaeological sites in South America. This vibrant town sits at a dizzying elevation of around 3400 meters!

As a participant here you will be assisting the local people with various development projects, the most important of which is education. This means you could be involved in conducting educational workshops for the empowerment of women and children. By taking part in these programs you will help us contribute to addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, one of whose aims is to ensure inclusive and quality education for all.

Other projects which are considered to be important by the community leaders are agricultural organic farming practices, crop irrigation, and reforestation. Depending on the project you may also be involved in the building of structures to economically heat homes and water during the cold winter months. All of these initiatives will lead to an improved quality of life for many of the local communities.
