Sea turtle conservation

From our research station at Ammes Beach in the village of Svoronata, we work to protect the sea turtles that call these waters home. Your contributions will help keep endangered species like loggerheads safe in their natural habitats. By preserving Kefalonia’s biodiversity, you’ll also be making a real difference in global conservation efforts.

From March to mid-April, volunteers team up with staff to gather data through capture-mark-recapture projects. Then, in April and May, you’ll spend time at the harbour observing turtles, documenting their behaviours. These contributions play a big role in conservation efforts and monitoring turtle populations.

Seagrass snorkel surveys

Between mid-April and November, join snorkelling expeditions to observe and document Posidonia seagrass meadows. Snap photos and take notes on the species you encounter. Learn about the vital role of seagrass in ecosystems, from water purification to supporting marine life balance.

Dive into project work

Roll up your sleeves for some hands-on project work. Your days will be packed with action, from tracking turtle ecology to conducting bird surveys and participating in coastal cleanups. Plus, there’s always the chance to attend enlightening presentations and analyse drone data – talk about making waves!

Outdoor adventures

Whether you’re basking in the sun on sandy shores or exploring underwater wonders, Kefalonia has it all. Don’t forget to pack your essentials – sunscreen, hats and a sense of adventure – and get ready to dive into the Mediterranean magic.

Island life

Kefalonia’s got tons of cool spots to explore in your free time. Check out the Cave of Melissani or the Cave of Drogarati for unique experiences. If history’s your thing, hit up the ancient ruins or check out the Castle of Saint George. And for killer views, don’t miss the Lighthouse of Saint Theodoroi.

Ammes Beach is perfect for soaking up the sun, offering sunbeds and beach bars.  You’ll find a variety of restaurants and cocktail bars within walking distance of your accommodation. Feeling adventurous? Grab your scuba gear and dive into Kefalonia’s underwater scene. Need to get to Argostoli? A taxi ride will cost you around 20 euros one way, but you can split it with up to four people. Public transport from Argostoli makes exploring other islands super easy.
