Working with GVI Laos

It has been a wonderful opportunity for me to work with GVI. I began my journey with GVI as a TEFL Intern in Phang Nga Thailand. There I got to experience first-hand the amazing work GVI does in the community, supporting local partners and making a real difference.

After my six months in Thailand I was eager to become a part of the team of amazing staff that supported me, encouraged me and taught me so much during my time with them. However, I was also keen to experience a new culture and a new environment. I discovered the GVI Careers Abroad website and explored all of the amazing opportunities available to work with GVI around the world.

Having spent time in Laos in the past and felt really at home here, I applied and was accepted for the Unpaid Field Staff position in Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is such a beautiful city to wander and explore. The Lao people are incredible genuine and friendly. The students are dedicated and appreciate the time and effort that goes into their English lessons. It is also wonderful to work with so many novice monks, many of whom join the temple from poor, rural villages, and are so committed to their education.

During my four months with GVI Laos I have continued to feel supported and encouraged by the staff here. It is incredibly rewarding to know that I am a part of a team that not only helps the local people but is also helping to provide a unique, life changing experience for our volunteers.
