Volunteering at VIDAS!

This past week, we have been fortunate enough to be able to participate in VIDAS, a 6 day free spay and neuter campaign for cats and dogs. VIDAS is held twice a year in the Yucatan area of Mexico, one of which is held here in Playa Del Carmen. GVI is partners with Coco’s Animal Welfare, and they have been longstanding partners with the organisation from the United States, VIDAS. During this 6 day campaign, over 1400 cats and dogs of the area were either spayed or neutered. Volunteering with GVI gave us the opportunity to help out and support the surgeries, the recovery and interact with the animals owners before and after their animals procedure.

It was extremely rewarding to be a part of a such a beneficial campaign! Without VIDAS, the majority of pet owners in this area would not have been able to fix their pets due to the cost. Spaying and neutering cats and dogs, is really important in this area to help reduce the overpopulation of stray animals on the street. It can also prevent aggressive behaviour, spread of sexually transmitted diseases and cancer.

All in all it was been an amazing campaign to be a part of, and made our GVI experience so much more!
