It was hard at the start of the project because we missed out on a week due to a plane crash at the Kathmandu airport, but the time we’ve had here has been full of adventures and great new experiences. Noel and I take a few days to adjust to new routines so with the structure and help from everyone here it’s been a very easy transition.

The kids at Male Patan are thankful, cute, and adorable (even the couple of trouble makers at the day care centre). Everything has been going very well and it’s amazing to see how everyone puts their own spin into the activities. The backup plans are very useful and it’s nice to see the teamwork that goes into planning weekly activities.

Conversation Club is a great afternoon project because the kids come on their own will. We help them with their homework, watch movies with them and just have talks with them. It’s nice and last week we got involved in a skipping workshop held by another volunteer.

The Street Boys are lovely and in some ways it’s easier to connect and help them because they’re older. All the different personalities in the home is great to see and the family feel to the home is lovely. Noel and I both love playing football with them but it was good to take a break from all the football and skipping and get away for the weekend to Chitwan National Park.

Our weekend away at Chitwan was a well needed relaxation break. It was a very nice hotel with great staff members!  It was a five hour bus trip but didn’t feel that long when we arrived. We started off our weekend with an Ox Cart Ride around the town. It was amazing to learn about the culture of the people from Chitwan and we even got to go to a museum and see the old beds, the cooking pots and the old farming equipment. The next morning we got up early to go for a canoe ride through the rivers, we saw two different types of crocodiles which were just being lazy on the riverbank. While out on the safari we saw peacocks, monkeys, foxes and even a few rhinos! It was incredible. One of the best things over the weekend was watching the sunset at the edge of the jungle and seeing a rhino walking in the water nearby. It was very surreal and a memory that myself and Noel will never forget.
