Volunteer in Caqalai

Join GVI and volunteer in one of our Marine programs based on the idyllic Caqalai Island of Fiji, in the Lomaiviti Island group. Pronounced ‘than-ga–lai’ it’s a tiny island of only 14 acres, meaning you can walk around it in 15 minutes.

Defined by white sand beaches and a tropical interior, it's on the edge of an expansive reef system. This offers many opportunities to experience the laid-back island lifestyle. Take the chance to go snorkeling and experience the rainbow of corals and sea-life. You might even see a black-and-white-banded sea snake! Or keep your feet dry and read a book or go for walk along the tidal line at low tide, and see what seashore life you can spot.
Why not visit the old capital of the island, Levuka, or one of the ten small villages located on the neighboring Moturiki Island. During your free time, you can try your hand at singing some Fijian songs, or go lay on the beach and watch the stars.

GVI and our local project partners use the data collected from our volunteers to work towards sustainable development. As such, participating in one of our programs will enable you to have a direct positive impact on this remote community.
