Amazing Things To Do In Peru

Points of Interest

Lima, the capital of Peru, is filled with history & culture. Street food, Pre-Incan constructions, bike rides along the ocean – it’s urban adventure heaven! You’ll never be bored.

Beaches

Lima’s city beaches, like Costa Verde, can become very crowded. If you would like a more secluded spot, head over to Paracas Natural Reserve, where your only beach buddies will be several protected bird species.

Sandboarding

At the little desert oasis called Huacachina, you’ll find the perfect spot for Sandboarding, sun tanning, dipping in the lake – fun! It’s just a day trip away from Lima.

Food! Glorious Food!

Try Peruvian classics like ceviche, a tangy seafood marinade; beef heart kebabs called anticuchos; or, if you’re brave, roasted cuy, otherwise known as guinea pig.

The Inca Trail

No list of Peruvian adventures would be complete without exploring the wonders of the magnificent Inca trail to the palace complex of Machu Picchu. Trekking through cloud forests, past magnificent ruins – it’s the hike to beat all hikes!

Explore Ancient Ruins

You’ve heard of Machu Pichu, but have you heard of Cusco, Pisac, Ollantaytambo or Sacsayhuaman? There are so many different  ruins to explore, you will forget which era you’re in!

Souvenir Shopping

Peruvian souvenirs are a must buy. Made using a practice perfected over three millennia, Peru’s master weavers create vibrant, lightweight & soft fabrics from alpaca & llama wool. Shop local markets for unique items created using these fabrics.

Explore Floating Islands

In the South of Peru, you’ll find an enormous lake called Titicaca. It’s home to the Uru, a people with a fascinating tradition of creating islands out of floating reeds. Yes – floating islands!

Local Festivals

If you’re lucky enough to be in Puno village early in Feb you’ll be able to witness the spectacular Feast of the Virgin of Candelaria. A two-week festival, one of the biggest in South America. The main event is a dance competition where decked out dance troupes compete for top spot.

Marvel at the Mystery

Hop on a small plane or hot air balloon & head South to gawk over the edge at the Nazca Lines. No one know what they were used for, but some believe they were created for ritualistic purposes. What will you think they were for?

Boat through the Amazon

Bucket list, much? More than 50% of Peru’s landscape is made up of Amazonian rainforest. Book a boat ride in Pucallpa, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon, & travel down the Ucayali river to enter a world that beats Avatar, hands-down.

A Boiling River

Yup, a river so hot, it burns anything that touches the water! To get there, you’ll take a tour offered by several companies in Pucallpa. Once you’re there, keep an eye out for Sumrina, a  spirit-teacher said to appear in the center of the river to give wisdom.
