The Great Astrolabe Reef

This is one of the largest barrier reefs in the world, located off the coast of Kadavu Island. Divers can expect to see an incredible variety of marine life including schools of colourful fish, turtles, sharks, and even the occasional humpback whale. The coral gardens here are also a sight to behold, boasting a wide variety of hard and soft corals. Visibility is typically excellent, and the depths range from 30 to 120 feet.

Bligh Waters

This spot is located between the islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu and is known for its strong currents and deep waters, making it perfect for experienced divers looking for a challenge. Divers can expect to see a wide variety of sharks, including bull sharks, tiger sharks, and even the occasional hammerhead. The currents also bring in an abundance of pelagic species such as tuna, barracuda, and mackerel. Depths range from 50 to 100 feet and visibility is usually good.

Beqa Lagoon

Another spot for experienced divers, known for its colourful coral reefs and vibrant marine life. Divers can expect to see a wide variety of fish, including parrotfish, angelfish and even the occasional barracuda. The area is also home to several dive operators that offer shark diving experiences, where divers can get up close and personal with bull sharks and tiger sharks. Depths range from 30 to 90 feet, and visibility is usually good.

The Somosomo Strait

This narrow channel of water is located between the islands of Taveuni and Vanua Levu, known for its strong currents and deep waters. Divers can expect to see an incredible variety of marine life, including schools of colourful fish, turtles, and even the occasional manta ray. The Strait is also known for its incredible visibility, often reaching up to 100 feet. Depths range from 30 to 100 feet.

The Namena Marine Reserve

This protected area is located off the coast of Vanua Levu and is known for its healthy coral reefs and abundance of marine life. Divers can expect to see a wide variety of fish, including clownfish, angelfish, and even the occasional octopus. The area is also home to several dive operators that offer guided dives to some of the most remote and untouched dive sites in Fiji. Depths range from 30 to 100 feet, and visibility is usually good.

Dawasamu

The area around the village of Dawasamu is a lesser-known diving destination in Fiji but offers a variety of dive sites for all levels of divers. From colourful soft coral gardens, to shark and pelagic encounters, to World War II wreck diving, the area around Dawasamu has something for everyone. And with the added bonus of being less crowded than other more popular diving destinations in Fiji.

In addition to the incredible dive sites that Fiji has to offer, the country is also home to several dive programs that allow divers to not only explore the underwater world, but also make a meaningful impact on the environment. GVI runs a number of volunteer programs, internships and professional apprenticeships which allow divers to participate in marine conservation and research while diving in some of the most beautiful and remote locations in Fiji.

The programs offer a unique opportunity to work with marine biologists and researchers on projects such as coral reef monitoring, shark and ray surveys, and sea turtle conservation. Divers will have the opportunity to learn about the latest research and conservation techniques, as well as assist with data collection and data analysis.
