Domestic Volunteering

I liked the fact that by volunteering...when I returned (home), my trip abroad was not an isolated experience. I have contributed to both the international and domestic effort to give aid and further understanding and now feel very much part of an international volunteering network. I definitely plan to go abroad again but I also want to do my part when I come home.

Volunteer travel is an amazing experience that you will never forget. It not only gives you the chance to have incredible traveling adventures, but also teaches you some valuable skills and provides you with some nail-biting stories to share. When you return from your overseas placement, volunteering in your home town or city is a great way to utilize and share these skills whilst helping you local community and, of course, prolonging your volunteering experience!

Opportunities for your post-placement volunteering vary greatly, from providing general help in the field of conservation and fundraising to helping with more specific roles, such as volunteering at your local aquarium or zoo. What is certain is that whatever you do will be worthwhile and will relate to and further complement your time abroad, whether it is in the fields of wildlife conservation, marine conservation, teaching, childcare or any of the other many volunteering areas.

Take a look at the links below, which gives some great examples of organizations that could use your help!

When I returned from my experience with GVI, I had so much enthusiasm and so many new skills I wanted to share. Volunteering in the UK was the perfect way to do this and to learn even more new skills, not to mention the amount of like-minded people I met!
