Join a 28-day course to experience and learn about African wildlife in Kruger National Park

Program Overview

Come explore the largest game reserve in South Africa while taking part on a ranger program.  While placed at Kruger National Park you will witness first-hand what it means to live the ranger life in South Africa, taking in the diverse and breath-taking landscapes that is home to some of the most fascinating wildlife.

To learn about conservation management, survival skills on the reserve anti-poaching and wildlife diseases you will take exciting walks and game drives all throughout the reserve.  In addition you will attend lectures on mammals, birds, trees etc. presented by expert and experienced game rangers.

Life on the Program

Daily lectures on a range of topics will fill the hottest time during the day, but when not in class you will take the classroom to the reserve, walking and driving during the day and night, with an occasional night out under the African stars.

You will start and end your days with game walks and drives as this is when the wildlife is most active.  In-between these times is when you will have your lectures and classes.

The accommodation provided is in large tents equipped with beds, bedding and chairs.  Your tent will have running water, flush toilets and electricity and the catering team will prepare three meals each day.

Program Details

By participating on the ranger program you will gain knowledge and insight into the wildlife and nature of the Kruger National Park, specifically on the mammals, birds and plants.  This is truly the ideal program for any person searching to learn more about the South African bush.

The daily classroom lectures will cover subjects such as geology, ecology, animal behavior, mammals, reptiles, birds, astronomy and much more.  That said, the main focus of the program is on practical training so you will spend a great deal of time in the Kruger concession area, a remote and pristine 5,000-acre reserve where you will take walks or game drives with the trainers at the park.  You will also have the chance to take full day-trips into Kruger National Park.

Despite having experienced the bush prior to the course I have been blown away by the new insights and knowledge this course offers. It is endlessly exciting to witness and appreciate all aspects of an eco-system, my eyes now open to the trees, grasses, soils, insects and more natural miracles. The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable. The workload is high but intensely interesting and I can only recommend it to anyone with an interest in the African bush, be it for a career change or pure passion.
