Volunteer Travel in Vanuatu

A thousand miles east of Australia lies Vanuatu a collection of gorgeous exotic islands peopled by proud and welcoming Melanesian people. Lush rainforest covers most of the islands from which still-smoking volcanoes sometimes rise up. Other islands are surrounded by coral reefs abundant with marine life and the occasional shipwreck, which provide some of best diving to be found anywhere. With an amazing variety of birdlife and a truly ancient indigenous culture, Vanuatu offers some amazing experiences for volunteer travel.

Vanuatu is a place of rare and unique charms. Indeed one of Vanuatus islands, Pentecost Island, is the spiritual home of the popular extreme sport of bungee jumping, which originated when the men of the island would (and still do) jump from towers with vines attached to their feet in the hope of ensuring a good yam harvest. On the islands a variety of ancestral traditions are still followed so closely that you may well feel you have been transported to an ancient world. Part of the Australian ecozone, Vanuatu is rich in plant and animal life, and is a great destination for anyone thinking of volunteering.
