Volunteer Travel in North America

Between the United States, Mexico and Canada, North America is home to some of the busiest and most vivacious cities on the planet. And whats maybe most remarkable about many of these cities is that, despite their young ages relative to many of the rest of the globes well-known cities, they are somehow already imbued with an enormous sense of history and significance: New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, Mexico City somehow these places feel like they must have been there forever. Actually, the last of these truly is an old city, having originally been founded as the Aztec capital of Mexico-Tenochtitlan in 1325. And that there is North America for you in a nutshell: Young and old, wild and civilized, a mass of interesting contradictions perfect for volunteer travel.

So much of the North American continent remains relatively untouched, particularly Canada, which is among the world’s least densely populated countries, and Greenland, with its mammoth ice sheet covering 80% of the country. At the southern end, the lush jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula are a haven for wildlife, punctuated by ancient Mayan ruins. On the many islands of the Caribbean, more jungle is surrounded by the golden sands of famous beaches and the seas provide some incredible diving opportunities. And from the orca of Greenland to alligators, turtles, armadillos, wolverines, bears, wolves and so much other rare fauna, North America is a haven for the nature lover.
