Volunteer Travel in Swaziland
The smallest country in Africa is also renowned as being one of its friendliest. Anyone who volunteers overseas in Swaziland is struck by the polite and peaceful nature of the Swazi people, despite suffering from high levels of poverty. Ancient traditions dominate Swaziland, which is known for its ethnic music and traditional dances, including the famed Umhlanga (Reed Dance) – a traditional dance performed by roughly twenty to thirty thousand Swazi women). Yet Swaziland’s youth are also open to a variety of contemporary influences, and the streets are often filled with the sounds of modern rock, pop and hip hop, alongside the more traditional varieties of folk.
Swaziland’s landscapes are as diverse as its music tastes, having lush rainforests, rolling savannahs, mystic mountains and meandering rivers. Within these landscapes are a number of national parks containing a range of beautiful wildlife, which volunteers can explore to see awesome game that includes lions and elephants.
