Volunteer Travel in Ghana
Welcome to possibly the friendliest country in West Africa. A great choice for anyone planning on volunteer travel on this continent, Ghana is a beautiful country just north of the Equator with a wonderful blend of ethnic charm and varied landscapes. Its capital city, Accra, is a perfect marriage of expected city hum with the characteristic African lack of fuss, which sits on the countrys long, beach-filled Atlantic coast holding colorful markets filled with delicious foods and spices.
Though much of the country is covered in classic African savannah grasslands it is broken up by a large belt of heavy rainforest, meandering streams and rivers, and the man-made Lake Volta created by the construction of the mighty Akosombo Dam. Anyone who chooses to volunteer in Ghana should not miss the chance to visit Kakum National Park, where elephants, monkeys and a staggering array of birds and butterflies can be followed along a canopy walkway suspended thirty meters above the forest floor.
