National Parks Internship Program in South Africa

Skills Required

These will vary depending on the National Park and projects being undertaken. However SANPARKS needs people who are very independent and have a proactive attitude to planning, development and completion of projects. A positive personality is absolutely vital, as is a willingness to teach and be taught, sensitivity and respect for other cultures.

Below is a list of other attributes GVI and SANParks is looking for:

• Flexibility is paramount.
• Fluency in English. Dutch would be an advantage.
• Environmental education experience or a teaching background.
• Interpretation skills and experience, such as guiding, lecturing etc.
• Background in conservation would be helpful.
• People with a passion for the outdoors.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer and/or art skills.
• Initiative takers and general all rounder’s.
• Interns must hold a valid driver’s licence. The minimum age requirement is 21.
