Twelve Weeks in Paradise
I am sitting on the ferry from Mahe to Praslin, two strangers called Abarna and Emma who are apparently my new companions for the next two or three months are right next to me and I am watching the islands around me, wondering which one might be Curieuse… that was when I first realised that I had somehow ended up in paradise.
When I finally arrived on Curieuse, the staff members showed us around the camp and introduced us to all the habits and duties of the daily camp life. And the only thing I could think was: “Wow! That’s my new home for the next three months.”
It took me a week to get used to everything… the people, the dorm, the food, the work and especially the toilet that can`t flush ;). But then I really started enjoying the island life!
After a couple of weeks I started going off of the island for the weekends and me and the other girls had some really amazing nights on Praslin. When the fourth week was coming to an end, we were excited for the new volunteers and we were looking forward to spending our next month with them. Then suddenly half of my time was over, and Curieuse felt like my new home, I couldn`t imagine going back to Germany so soon.
It turned out that the strangers from the ferry on my very first day became really good friends and it was so sad to say goodbye to Emma at the end of the second month. But we have already planned to meet again and celebrate a Seychelles revival!
I have now been here for 10 weeks, and have two more to go… There have been many ups and downs, but if somebody were to ask me if I would do the same thing again, my answer would definitely be YES. I will see you again Seychelles! 🙂
