Climate Care
GVI is Climate Friendly
Climate change is perhaps the biggest global threat we face today. Therefore GVI strive to reduce our impact on global warming by carbon offsetting and lowering our carbon footprint.
What are GVI doing to reduce their carbon footprint?
As well as offsetting our own carbon emissions, GVI runs a variety of projects that directly affect the rates of carbon emissions in the developing world and work towards achieving sustainable tourism in project areas (see below). You can actively help by offsetting the carbon emissions from your flight through our partnership with Climate Care.
Global Eden Project
Through the Global Eden Project, the GVI Charitable Trust aims to put the value of natural resources above the value of non-renewable fuels. Through collaborative ecotourism projects we will help local people earn from their areas pristine environments rather than cut them down. Alongside this, the GVI Charitable Trust will educate tourists and locals about how they affect the environment, whilst monitoring climate change at education centers.
High Efficiency Stoves
The benefits of these stoves are threefold:
- They directly reduce the release of CO2
- They reduce the amount of wood being used and therefore reduce deforestation
- They save lives by reducing the effects of one of the world’s biggest killers, indoor air pollution, which is responsible for one death every 20 seconds, that’s 1.6 million deaths annually.
Carbon Sequestering
GVI is working to claim back CO2 from the atmosphere by replacing and managing forests across Latin America that have been denuded for fuel wood.
