How is My Money Spent
The GVI volunteers and the contribution they make to SLWCS by participating in our projects makes it possible for us further these goals and objectives. The funds from GVI generated through its Sri Lanka volunteer program has made it possible for us to continue to maintain our research and conservation projects, provide employment to local community people and provide funding for local community development and capacity building.
Ravi Corea, President of the Sri Lankan Conservation Society
All over the world organizations are crying out for volunteers to join their overseas projects. Yet it is important for volunteers to remember that in order to ensure that they have a safe and fulfilling experience, and the host country project is not using its (usually) small funds to cover the volunteers’ living and training costs, there is almost always a cost involved in volunteering. Most of the organizations which Global Vision International works with do not have the funds to support the volunteers but are desperate for their support.
Volunteering with GVI provides these organizations with the opportunity to survive well into the future. It also gives you, the volunteer, the chance to live and work in a totally new environment, learn a new language and new skills, meet like minded people and experience a true cultural immersion. Without GVI many of our project partners and host country charities would be struggling to survive, and without volunteers GVI would be unable to run the volunteer projects with these organizations. The majority of organizations that we work with do not have the skills or the resources to promote themselves within the global marketplace. Through GVI they can be seen by the wider world, be recognized as running valuable projects, give volunteers a safe and enjoyable experience and are supported by a steady stream of hard working volunteers.
GVI understands that it is important to know where your money is going and how it is going to be spent, so we have attached a pdf download below to give you an idea. The most important thing to remember is that without GVI many of our project partners and host country charities would be struggling to survive.
In 2006, 78% of volunteer contributions were spent directly in the field.
