Dom Williams - Latin America Projects Director
After gaining a degree from the University of Northumbria, United Kingdom, Dom spent 4 years investigating, researching and travelling South America, finally settling for Guatemala where he has lived since 2000. Dom says “Central America, and Guatemala in particular is one of the last really unexplored, exploreable regions on earth”. Dom and Doreen set up their first Indigenous project in San Andrés Itzapa, Guatemala in 2003 and due to the success and advances made, they have set up further Indigenous projects in Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador and Honduras with the help of local community leaders.
Doreen Cabrera - Project Director
Doreen is born and bred Guatemaltecan, hailing from Guatemala City, where she earned a degree in Marketing and International Business from Rafael Landivar University. After a couple of years working in the capital, she decided to set up projects with Global Vision International “to help my country, people and its visitors. Guatemala has everything, and we want to share it with the world.” She has worked with the Indigenous populations since 2001 and has an in-depth knowledge of the cross-culture issues facing Guatemala today.
Carla Haylor - Project Manager
After finishing University in 1999 where she studied European Business with Technology at Brighton University & the Politecnico di Torino, Carla spent the following 7 years building a career within the Logisitcs industry. During this time she took a sabatical in 2005 to travel in and around Central and South America. For part of this sabatical, Carla volunteered on GVI’s Teaching Indigenous Children in Guatemala project, the result of which has lead to her following her heart & brought her back indefinately as a Project Manager, at present (June - Dec 2007) within Peru.
Chrissie Ellison - Project Manager 2008
After finishing school in July 1988, Chrissie spent 6 months in Australia where her love of travelling began. After returning to the UK and working in various organisations for 14 years intertwined with several travels abroad to places such as India, Africa, Alaska, America, Central America, Canada, New Zealand and parts of Asia too, Chrissie finally ended up in South America for 7 months in 2005, 3 of which were spent volunteering as a teacher for GVI in Ecuador. She has not looked back since and as a qualified professional project manager came back to manage the projects in Ecuador for a further 6 months in 2006. After this, she visited Dom in Guatemala for 6 weeks before travelling down to Peru and managing the projects in Arequipa for the first 6 months of 2007. Her plans are to continue managing projects in South America for the foreseeable future visas pending. Chrissie is EFR and EFR Instructor-trained.
