Volunteer Travel in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras

Spanish classes

The Spanish lessons are one to one tutition and the school offers courses ranging from beginner and intermediate, to advanced levels. The classes have an emphasis on grammar and conversation. Those participating for 3 months will receive 40 hours of Spanish lessons, 80 hours if staying for 6 months, 120 hours for 9 months and 160 hours for those staying for a year.

Time spent in each country

Volunteers will generally spend equal time in each country but volunteers are expected to be flexible as on occasion this may be subject to change.

• 3 months - one month in each Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
• 6 months - two months in each Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
• 9 months - three months in each Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
• 12 months - four months in each Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Adventure Side Trips

Included in the program are several trips; in Guatemala you will undertake the weekend Lake Atitlán adventure trip; the first day involves driving a couple of hours up to the drop-off point high above the Lake, unloading the bikes and speeding down around 40km to Panajachel, where you take the boat to a beautiful lakeside hotel for R&R! The next day the kayaks are taken out to a point around the lake, from where you will hike back a couple of hours to the hotel, before heading back to Antigua.

In Honduras, there is a day’s hike in the surrounding valleys, a guided tour of the world-famous Copán Mayan ruins, a horse-riding trek, a visit to the local hot-springs and a visit to the local Guacamaya parrot and butterfly sanctuaries.

Nicaragua offers up a weekend trip to the Miraflor Natural Reserve, an area richly filled with all types of flora and fauna, as well as exciting hikes, waterfalls and rustic accommodation! You will also spend a day hiking to the Salto Estanzuela waterfall and horse riding.

Additionally, in your own time, there are plenty of opportunities for cultural tours, museums, coffee and Macadamia nut plantations, volcano hikes, yoga, cookery and salsa classes, which have proved very popular with previous volunteers and also relaxing spas for those wanting to pamper themselves at the weekend after a hard week’s work!
