Program Overview
Teach English and support community education projects high up in Nepal, a country full of natural splendor, and although beautiful, its people are very poor.
Start your time in Nepal with an orientation in the ancient Kathmandu Valley. Surrounded by snow tipped mountains, you’ll learn about Nepalese culture and language, and visit sites such as Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple) and the colorful Patan Durbar Square. After orientation, you’ll be assigned a location where you’ll teach English and support other community projects.
You’ll provide much needed support to crowded schools and education centers. The students there are in dire need of extra attention for them to grow and have a better future.
Life on the Program
Most of your time will be spent working in local schools or community centers. Daily activities could include assisting English teachers with their curriculum, playing sports, or supporting extracurricular activities. In the evenings, you’ll have time to relax with other volunteers and plan for the following day.
You will stay with a host family during orientation, a unique opportunity that will immerse you in Nepalese culture and allow you to live life as a local in basic but comfortable housing. While on your placement, you will share rooms and an apartment with your fellow volunteers as you wake up in the heart of the Himalayas.
Program Details
Many educational facilities have very few English teachers and require volunteer support to continue operating. Your presence teaching conversational English, as well as computer basics, sports, and teamwork skills in local community centers and schools will be a huge asset to your placement center.
You’ll also serve as a community role model, helping Nepalese children develop into responsible citizens who have respect for their environment and heritage. This may include assisting with community-based conservation initiatives and emphasizing cultural awareness.
Our goal is to support the education centers in Nepal by providing enthusiastic volunteers to teach locals new skills and give them a foundation that they can use to improve their lives.

So yes, I can say that I think I was the luckiest volunteer, I had the most amazing experience of my life!! I had a group of kids that really needed a volunteer and an orphanage that needed lots of attention/monitoring. The kids were so special.
My kids were rural kids and there was lots of talk of them being wild and hard to control, but I found to be completely untrue!! They were so loving and affectionate; all they wanted was someone to talk to and to be there with them. That’s what I did.
I was immediately treated with unbelievable hospitality from the local people. Being the age that I am, most of the village is my age which helped me make friends with them and feel apart of the village. All were welcoming to help me learn more about the culture as well as answer any of my questions.
I taught at a local Mosque for an hour before school, then went to the local government school to teach for 2 hours. The afternoons were free to relax and work on lesson plans before an after-school program with local students.
