Volunteer with children and experience life in the Himalayas

Program Overview

Volunteer with children and experience Nepalese culture amidst the snow-capped Himalayan mountains.  Following an orientation in the Kathmandu Valley, you will be placed in an orphanage or care center in Nepal best suited to your skills and the current project need.

You will be able to experience life in Nepal as it has been for centuries, with Hindu temples, colorful squares, and renowned festivals, quickly becoming immersed in local life, learning all about the fascinating Nepal culture and traditions.

The children you’ll work with are in desperate need of extra support. Many of these children come from rough backgrounds yet still have an insatiable appetite to learn. Every bit of time spent with them will brighten their lives and make a huge difference in their development.

Life on the Project

You’ll spend the majority of your time volunteering with the children at the care center you are placed at, leading games and activities, creating art projects, and playing sports. Evenings are typically free for you to spend time with and get to know your fellow volunteers.

During the orientation phase you’ll stay with a host family in comfortable and simple accommodation with meals provided. After orientation you will stay in further basic but comfortable accommodation near your placement site with shared room and bath with breakfast and evening meals included consisting of simple but nutritious food.

Although Nepal is a breathtakingly beautiful country, it‘s also very poor with many families struggling to support their children, and every year hundreds are found in the streets of Nepal’s cities and towns and placed into care centers like the one you will be placed at.

You’ll provide educational support for these children, and help create a positive and nurturing environment for them to grow and develop in. You could be placed in a variety of fascinating locations in Nepal, including Nuwakot, Chitwan, Bandipur, Trisuli, and Pokhara.

Our goal is to provide the support needed to keep these care facilities running. Because these care centers have no income, and are almost entirely funded by program fees, volunteers are critical in aiding the hardworking teachers and care providers.

Well what do I say about my time in Nepal but the only word I can use is magical. From the time you arrive at the airport in Kathmandu till the time you leave, you are looked after superbly. The activities that go along with the volunteering are amazing, the trek, rafting and the visit to Chitwan. All the staff and fellow volunteers I met during my time in Nepal were so friendly and supportive; you really feel part of the family.

I saw some things I never even dreamt I would see and met the nicest people I have ever come across in my lifetime. The only thing I hated about the program was that it ended! Fun, enjoyment and other words like that can't even come close to describing the time I had in Nepal!
