Yachana Technical High School is located on the Napo River, in the community of Mondana, in the province of Napo, in Ecuador’s eastern Amazon region. The site is reached by combination of travel by bus and motorized canoe. From Quito, bus travel time is from 8 to 10 hours. Tena, a pleasant jungle city, is 3 hours away bus. Canoe transit times depend on port of entry and range between 10 and 40 minutes.

Description
Provide English language instruction in residential high school setting in the Amazon rainforest.
Scheduling and class time will vary but you will be expected to accompany students during various activities in the morning, and provide formal classes in the afternoon – 1 or 2 classes of 45 minutes each day. You are also expected to be available evenings for extra tutoring and general student supervision and companionship.
The high school is residential and is located on a working farm, just a few minutes’ walk from the village of Mondaña and Yachana Lodge. Teaching methods focus on hands-on field practice and experiential learning, in which students break away from the traditional classroom setting and learn by doing.
In addition to standard subjects, students receive comprehensive, practical tuition in each of four main areas or ambientes: sustainable farming, animal husbandry, eco-tourism and conservation, and micro-enterprise. The school aims to be financially self-staining by earning income through the sale of its produce and from various small business projects, including the newly-created company, Yachana Technology. The students are involved in every aspect of these processes including design, implementation, labour, accounting, marketing and management.

Qualifications Required
- Recognised TEFL certificate and English teaching experience. Intermediate – advanced fluency in Spanish essential.
